Status: Alpha
Alpha feature: subject to change without notice.
Overview:
TL;DR: Smart Campaigns use AI to automatically test and optimize ad combinations from your asset pool—minus the "black box." You get total visibility into every generated ad set, and if you turn an ad off, it stays off so the AI focuses purely on your active ads.
How Smart Campaigns Work
- You build a Template: You create one Ad Set Template (defining budget caps and goal CPA) and one Ad Template (containing your creative pool of images, videos, titles, descriptions, and CTAs).
- AI generates derived variants: The AI agent mixes and matches assets from your creative pool to create AI-Generated ad sets and ads under the campaign.
- Automated optimization: The AI agent continually adjusts bids, budgets, and delivery status based on real-time performance signals.
- Full advertiser control: All AI-created items are clearly tagged as
AI Generated. You can pause or edit derived items, update your creative template, or toggle the entire campaign at any time.
Setting Up a Smart Campaign
1. Campaign Setup
- Eligible Objectives: Smart Campaigns are available for Web Conversion, App Promotion, and (New) Sale objectives.
- Enablement: Toggle the Smart Campaign option during campaign creation. Note: Once a campaign is created, the Smart Campaign setting cannot be changed.
- Structure Limits: Each Smart Campaign contains exactly 1 Ad Set Template and 1 Ad Template, alongside the resulting AI-Generated ad sets and ads. Manual ad sets cannot be added to a Smart Campaign.
2. Ad Set Template Setup
- Goal CPA: Required at setup. This represents your target CPA and cannot be edited after creation, so ensure you enter an accurate target.
- Max Daily Budget: The maximum daily budget allocated to each derived AI-generated ad set (actual spend may be lower based on performance).
- Max Active Ad Sets: The maximum number of AI-generated ad sets allowed to run simultaneously (capped at 10).
- Automated Bidding: Bid types and optimization goals are managed automatically by the AI agent to achieve your performance target.

Managing Smart Campaigns & AI Control
Status Definitions
- Template Status (
Generating/Paused Generating): Turning a Template OFF pauses creation of new ad sets and ads from that template. Turning the Ad Set Template ON or OFF automatically syncs the status of the Ad Template.
- AI-Generated Status (
Active/Inactive): Reflects current delivery status for individual derived ad sets and ads.
Advertiser Override Rules
- User Control: You retain full authority over your campaign. If you manually turn OFF an AI-generated ad set or ad, the AI agent will respect your choice and will not automatically turn it back on.
- Template Edits: Edits made to an Ad Set Template or Ad Template only apply to newly generated ad sets and ads; existing active ad sets and ads remain unaffected.
- Campaign Toggle: Turning the main Smart Campaign OFF immediately pauses all active ad sets and ads within the campaign and stops all future AI generation.
Duplicating Smart Campaigns
- The system duplicates the Ad Set Template and Ad Template.
- You will be prompted to set the Goal CPA / Goal ROAS for the new campaign's template during setup.
Reporting & Analytics
- AI-Generated Ad Sets & Ads: All performance metrics (Impressions, Clicks, Conversions, CTR, CVR, CPA, CPC, CPM) are tracked directly on individual AI-generated ad sets and ads in your reporting table.
- Templates: Templates serve as generative master blueprints and do not aggregate direct delivery metrics.
- Filtering: You can filter your campaign and ad set views by the (
Template,AI Generated, orManual).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if I manually pause an AI-generated ad set or ad?
A: The system respects manual overrides. If you turn off an AI-generated ad set or ad, the AI agent will not automatically turn it back on.
Q: How do edits to a template affect existing ads?
A: Updates made to an Ad Set Template or Ad Template apply exclusively to newly generated ad sets and ads. Existing active ad sets and ads will continue running unaffected.
Q: What happens when I turn off a Template vs. the entire Campaign?
Turning off a Template: Pauses the generation of new ad sets and ads from that template. (Turning the Ad Set Template ON/OFF automatically syncs the Ad Template status).
Turning off the Campaign: Immediately pauses all active AI-generated ad sets and ads within the campaign and stops all future AI generation.
Q: How are performance metrics reported for Smart Campaigns?
A: Performance metrics (Impressions, Clicks, Conversions, CTR, CVR, CPA, CPC, and CPM) are tracked directly on individual AI-generated ad sets and ads. Templates serve strictly as generative blueprints and do not display delivery metrics. Reporting tables can be filtered by status (Template, AI Generated, or Manual).
Q: If I set the "Max active ad set limit" to 10, will the smart campaign automatically create 10 ad sets?
A: No, not necessarily. Setting the limit to 10 allows the campaign to create up to 10 ad sets, but it will only create as many as it deems necessary based on performance. For example, it might start with 3 ad sets and only generate additional ones later if needed.
